Boban Arsenijević

Universität Graz, Partner

Boban Arsenijević is professor at the University of Graz, Institute for Slavic Linguistics. Clausal embedding has always been one of the central topics of his research. Its definite direction has crystalized in the preparations for the Marie Curie project he conducted at the University of Potsdam, titled Relative Strategies, whose central hypothesis was that all the clausal embedding in natural language proceeds via the same mechanism of relativization, i.e. that all embedded clauses in natural language are underlyingly relative clauses. His interest in the topic of the project hence most directly relates to the innovative aspects of both the ontological status of the denotation of the modified expression in the case of complement clauses and the specifics of their structural relation, but it also concerns the possibilities of its expansion in the areas such as conditional, concessive, purpose and counterfactual clauses, as well as for temporal, locational and other event-oriented adjunct clauses.
