Kouka Samuel Zongo is from Burkina Faso. He has an A4 baccalaureate which he obtained in 2014. At university, he enrolled in the Germanic studies department, where he obtained a ‘licence des lettres’ in 2017. In 2019, he joined the master’s programme of the Department of German studies in Ouagadougou and on 3 March 2023, he successfully defended his master thesis in linguistics. The subject of his thesis was a contrastive study of subordinating conjunctions in German and Mooré, a Gur language spoken in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and elsewhere. His research interests include syntax, language comparison, also in a diachronic perspective.
As part of the IMMAGES project, he will be carrying out an in-depth investigation into the linguistic phenomenon of subordination in Mooré which shows a rich and diverse inventory of items used for different types of subordination.
