IMplications for the MAtrix and its GuestS
The next informal seminar will take place On May 3 2024.
Samuel Zongo will give a talk on Mooré adverbial clauses under the approach considering them as relative clauses.
Our first informal seminar took place on February 29. Melle Groen presented a talk “Comparing two analyses of Dutch als“. Abstract below. Link to the video (limited access, if interested, please request the password).
“The Dutch element als ‘as, if, like’ has several functions; it is used in small clauses, comparatives, as well as in various types of subordinate clauses. I will briefly discuss two competing analyses of als; one possibility is that it is a functional head, a relator as proposed by Marcel den Dikken; the other is that it is a nominal phrase with a silent root, as was recently proposed by Norbert Corver. In either way, Dutch als represents a relevant data point for our approach to clausal embedding.”
It’s our pleasure to announce that four PhD candidates joined the project
